My Hair Transformation

About a week ago I went into Sally's Beauty Shop to get some temporary dye with my best friend who was going to Pittsburgh Pride the following day. I should have known I wouldn't be able to walk into the hair dye aisle without feeling the need to do something with my own head. The pastel dyes immediately caught my eye. I didn't buy any that day but over the next couple days, dying my hair was all I could think about. I really wanted to go pastel pink but since my skin color is naturally fairly pink-tinted I decided to go with lavender. So within a day or two I returned to Sally's and bought three boxes (which still didn't turn out to be enough when all was said and done - curse my thick hair).
On the day that I bought the dye, no one was available to dye my hair for me, so I decided to start messing around with it myself. It was the first time I ever attempted to do any color on my own hair, so I was nervous, but it turned out so good. So naturally I had to bust out my camera for a quick new hair shot. It was late at night, so I used my speedlight as opposed to my window lighting set up like I usually do for my self-portraits. Here was the result:

I kept my streaks for a day while I tried to decide if it was enough for me or if I wanted to do my whole head. I was nervous about giving up my blonde hair for a while, but the general consensus was that I should do my whole head. So I went for it.

Even though the dye didn't want to hold on to my roots, it looked amazing...for about a minute. Soon it started fading to this weird blue-ish purple-ish color. I still loved it, but my best friend was coming to visit me and I knew she wouldn't mind dying it for me, so I decided that we should try to fix my roots up, and see if we could make the purple stay. But when we went to Sally's there was no lavender dye left. I could have waited to go back the next day, but I was impatient. We decided to go blue. It was supposed to be a pastel blue, but we were dying over the weird purple-blue color I had going on, so it turned out super vibrant. I was cool with it. I love my blue head. Obviously a mini photo shoot with myself is obligatory with a new hair color in my life. Here are some photos I took yesterday afternoon.

Like I said, I love the blue. I definitely feel like a cotton candy mermaid princess in that shoot above. My bangs still didnt want to totally hold the blue, they kind of look slightly streaked with green, but I still love it. I like the imperfection and the multiple colors that can be found throughout my hair. I will rock whatever color I get every time. I'm glad I made the decision to go through with dying my hair a crazy color, despite my hesitation. I'm 23, this will probably be last opportunity to do something like this so why not. It's been fun so far, and I can't wait to see what it fades to. Bring on the grungey-ness.
