New projects are in the air!

Happy first day of spring everyone! Despite the wonderful snow we woke up to. -_-
Every week is a good week when I get the chance to shoot something. This week I got out with my camera a couple of times. I started out the week shooting a few more headshots for a friend due to a flipped collar last week (see my previous blog entry), and yesterday I got to start on a new project. Yesterday I went to check out an up-and-coming addiction rehabilitation center just outside of Indiana, called SpiritLife. The SpiritLife center, headed by executive director Louis Wagner, Jr., is still in the works and not yet up and running, but the campus is beautiful and so is the cause. Apparently some of the community around SpiritLife has been giving the executive director grief over the facility, due to the negative stigma attached to drug and alcohol addiction, claiming the land the facility is on to be a "recreational area". I think this is just so sad. How can people be against something that helps people? The center was previously a nursing home, how recreational is that really? And it's going to be a place where people go to heal and better themselves, and it's so wrong and just sad to me that there are people who would have that stopped. I say go SpiritLife and go Lou! Your cause is a noble one and I hope to see SpiritLife up and running soon.
But I guess I haven't really explained what I was doing there, so I'll do that now. My job is going to be taking photographs of the inside and outside of the different buildings of the facility and the campus for SpiritLife's new website that is in the works. So yesterday I went to check out the campus with a few fellow My New Leaf team members (the start-up addiction recovery app. team that I take photos for, I'll talk more about that below). Lou was kind enough to give us a tour of the campus, and I was able to snap a couple test photos that I later edited just for fun. My favorite part of the tour was this amazing little Eastern Orthodox church on the grounds that was built by the same Priest who founded the SpiritLife nursing home, and will also be utilized by the rehabilitation center. The walls of the church are lined with canvas and beautifully painted from floor to ceiling, so I had to snap a few photos, check them out below.
I'll be returning to the SpiritLife campus soon, once the grass is green and there are flowers on everything. I'm looking forward to getting out there, hopefully in the early morning when everything is all golden and pretty. I'm happy to have this opportunity to step outside my usual world of shooting and editing portraits, and to take this time to get some practice and experience with shooting other things. I love taking any opportunity to learn and grow as a photographer! And I'm always amazed to see what my camera can do. Here are some of the shots I took around the campus yesterday:
Isn't that church cool? It must have taken SO LONG to paint like that. I think it's beautiful. But okay, I'm almost done, I have two more photos to share.
Like I mentioned before, I'm part of a team of people working on a smart phone addiction recovery application, called My New Leaf. My New Leaf was founded by my boyfriend, Ryan (he's doing great things and I'm very proud of him, go Ryan!). My job is to take photos for the website/Twitter account. Visit the site at mynewleaf.co to get an idea of what the app is about and to see some of my photos. Anyways, so I went to SpiritLife with some of the My New Leaf team since the My New Leaf graphic design artist, Sarah Orefice, will be putting the SpiritLife website together and I wll be taking photos for it. Sarah is thew newest My New Leaf team member, so she was in need of a team member headshot, so we decided to take care of that yesterday after we had finished with our SpiritLife visit. At this point the My New Leaf team has seen some team member changes, so I'm hoping to get the whole team together sometime this spring/summer to get all new matching headshots because right now they're all a bit different. But here are a couple headshots that I took for Sarah yesterday!
That's all for now. I hope you all have a great weekend! My birthday is tomorrow and I'm having dinner with my family tonight, so I'm looking forward to this weekend! Despite the fact that IUPatties is trying to steal my thunder! Cheers, and thanks for checking out my blog! :)
